This quote to me just showed how much the divorce of her parents actually effected Heather. Throughout the book you hear a lot about how the divorce effects Alice, but not Heather. It tore her apart just as much as it did to Alice, she just didn't show it as much.
I agree with this because throughout the novel Heathers emotion aren't really displayed but this quote really lets you know what she is feeling and what her character is really like.
